Conservative Education Leaders Endorse Jeff |

Today, Republican candidate for State Senate and Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte announced the support of At-Large and former District 6 Mecklenburg County school board member Tim Morgan and District 1 School Board Member Rhonda Lennon. While the school board is a non-partisan board, both Morgan and Lennon are registered Republicans.
Jeff Tarte has been continuously involved with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for the past 16 years, including working directly with the superintendent of the 136,000-student school system and serving on the Davidson IB Middle School Leadership Team for three years. Tarte has put all three of his children through the Mecklenburg County School System, from K through 12. All three graduated from North Mecklenburg High School. He was instrumental in the decision to build William Amos Hough High School in District One.
Citing Tarte’s conservative values as the reason for his support, At-Large member Tim Morgan stated, The reason I have endorsed Jeff Tarte is his involvement both in the community and in local government. He understands the limitations and proper role of government. He will be an excellent advocate for CMS as a whole and Matthews, Mint Hill and South Charlotte in particular. These traits make him the best conservative choice to represent District 41 in the NC Senate."
While District One member Rhonda Lennon also trusts in Tarte’s conservative values, she instead highlighted Tarte’s long-term involvement in CMS schools stating, "Mayor Tarte and I have worked together on the school issues facing the north county for over fifteen years since our daughters were in the first grade together. He has been involved with local schools for 2 decades. There is no one I trust more both with CMS and our state education system than Mayor Tarte. He is the best and only choice for NC Senate District 41.”
Upon hearing of the endorsements, Tarte stated, “I am humbled to have received the support of the conservative leaders of our local education system. Educating our children is vitally important to creating jobs and building a foundation for our state to lead the nation, but those in Raleigh do not always know what is best for each child.”
Tarte added, “That is why the parents, teachers, and school administrators who know best how to achieve success must be empowered to make decisions locally. Throwing more money at the problem is not a solution. We must change our approach to give our schools and parents the flexibility to choose what is right, while still ensuring accountability for every spending decision. Every per pupil expenditure needs to be evaluated for efficiency and effectiveness. If we reform education by prioritizing in-classroom spending – not giving way to giant bureaucracy or centralized control in Raleigh – our schools will be the model of success nationwide.” |
